I’ll just take a stab at it:
To temporize (vt): To change a permanent staff member to a temporary one, for example: “Due to our declining sales these last few months, the management has decided to temporize you. You’re full time hours will be reduced and you will now be working only 1 or 2 shifts per week. Sorry.”
