The Mandate

The purpose of this blog is to draw attention to the absolutely terrible misuse of the English language in general, and specifically, by the writers and news readers of my local media outlets.

I know you are more about grammar and use, but I was wondering about the use of than in comparison writing. Having always been taught that simile are a “like and as” thing, we are befuddled by the incorporation of “than” into the definition. It makes sense, but we’ve just never included it. Has the definition of simile always included than? Help.
Thanks.
